Takoma Park, Maryland is generally thought of a a "gay-friendly"
place. It has an active gay brunch group that meets frequently
and (unlike many other area groups) there are a large number of
women members. Takoma Park tends to be left wing in outlook and
alternative in culture. It has good schools and several parks.
There is an historic district and a great variety of property
types and styles. It abuts Washington, D.C. so the many gay venues
and organizations that exist there are a short distance away.
Takoma Park is incorporated and has it's own Mayor and council.
Montgomery County (where Takoma Park is located), Prince Georges
County, and Washington, D.C. have all been pro-active in protecting
the rights of Gays and Lesbians in the recent past.
