Vermont
Buy a property in spring so that you can enjoy the maple sugar
season with all of its candy and syrups. Better yet, select a
home in the summer when hiking, outdoor concerts, and ice cream
parlors are readily available for the casual homebody. No, the
glorious carpets of color the fall brings when one can visit the
clapboard villages is most appropriate. Actually, the winter with
horse-drawn sleighs and snow-crested peaks is the ideal time.
Any season is the best season to move to Vermont!
Enjoy music festivals? Burlington's Discover Jazz Festival including
jazz, blues, Latin, worldbeat, and gospel can be heard on the
shores of Lake Champlain. This is one of Vermont's largest multicultural
events. The Marboro Music Festival runs also from late June through
early August and is in its 52nd year of production. Nearby Brattleboro
holds an annual Bach Festival. Numerous other festivals may also
tempt your cultural palate. In August sojourn to Mad River Valley
for the Vermont Festival of the Arts. Stratton Mountain features
the Vermont Arts and Fine Craft Festival in late August and early
September. Starting in July and running a month is the choice
opportunity to experience the top entertainment, flavorful craft
brews, and gourmet foods of the Vermont Brewers Festival located
in Burlington.
So many various galleries await your visitation: Montpelier's
The Artists Ham, Stowe's Robert Paul Galleries, Pawlet's Witt
Gallery, and Grafton's Gallery North Story are to name but a few
opportunities. Others dot the state and should not be missed.
Historians find great attraction and delight in this state. Addison's
Chimney Point features the first settlement in the 1690 stockyard
of Captain deWarm. The first canal of the United States was built
in 1892 and can be visited at Bellows Falls. Historic homes are
also about. It was at Plymouth Notch that vacationing Vice President
Calvin Coolidge received an urgent call from the capitol in Washington
informing of the death of President Warren Harding in August 1923.
Coolidge was sworn in by his father, a notary public, immediately
by kerosene lamp light at Plymouth Notch.
Enjoy the outdoors? The scenic beauty of Vermont is unsurpassed.
For hikers and campers trek the Long Trail knows as "a footpath
in the wilderness" for the adventure of a lifetime. The lakes
and mountains are unbelievable. The White Mountains and the White
Mountain National Forest along with the Green Mountain National
Park are definite to-dos. Skiing at Sugarbush attracts many in
the wintertime also.
