With a warm climate and mild winters, Birmingham has become the largest city in the state of Alabama representing 21% of the total population. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians, this charming city boasts a world-class medical and financial district. Construction is high with many automobile and assembly plants locating to this area.

The city has a lot to offer its people. Four junior colleges, The University of Alabama, Birmingham Southern College and Samford University are located in this city. Newsweek named the Alabama School of Fine Arts as one the the "10 Best high schools in the nation."

Many lakes and parks, bike paths and golf courses can be found throughout. Shopping is great as there are eight large malls in the vicinity including the famous Summit and Galleria. Fine dining and night clubs are abundant.

The gay and lesbian population live throughout the city and in rural areas as well. However, the Crestwood, Highland Parks, Forest Park, Southside and Downtown areas are most reflective of this population. Relocating to Birmingham is a chance to live in a city of history, character, hospitality, and economic growth.
