About the Somerville Area of Massachusetts:

Although Somerville has come up in price quite a bit in the past few years, there are still many areas that aren't nearly as pricey as, say, the Davis Sq. area, and probably have some good potential. Somerville is great for income properties and fixer-uppers, often with the possibility of splitting up single family or multi-family homes into condos and making a very good return on investment. Expect decent income properties to start in the high $300's. Melrose, where I live, is a great area to consider for a gay-friendly town that's not too expensive and not too far from the city (15 minutes NW via 93), but is quite nice and convenient. Expect decent single family homes to start in the low $300's here. Newton is a fabulous town, very convenient to Boston with amazing schools and cultural programs, not to mention a huge number of higher-end homes and condos. Plus it always feels like a very open-minded community to me. Expect homes that most people would start to consider 'decent' to start in the $500's. Contributed by Jeffrey Sanchez
