Missouri
The "Show Me" state will do
just that--show you the hospitality, variety, and the welcome
extended to all new residents. It has it all! What do you seek?
Missouri possesses parks, big cities with all the excitement nightlife
affords, small city quaintness, professional sports, ethnic variety,
museums, and fabulous cuisine. Outdoor activities abound: rafting,
hiking, underground cave exploration, white water rafting, scuba
diving, fishing, and canoeing on clear Ozark streams. Any and
all that you seek can be found here.
The largest Missouri city is St. Louis. The 630 foot Gateway Arch
welcomes all from throughout the country as St. Louis is closer
to New York City than to the Pacific Ocean. It sits in the middle
of America. Take a Mississippi riverboat cruise and be reminded
of Mark Twain's adventures, enjoy the blues of the Soulard neighborhood,
relax in Castlewood State Park, wander the Shaw Arboretum, or
trek the verdant Missouri Botanical Garden. Shop the Cherokee
Antique Row, St. Louis Center, or the St. Louis Galleria.
So very many opportunities await the newly arrived resident: the
zoo, Anheuser-Busch Brewery tours, Six Flags, St. Louis, the Art
Museum, Grant's Farm, the annual boat and sports show-the midwest's
largest display of boats, accessories, tackle, and outdoor gear.
St Louis has this and much, much more.
Kansas City is known as the "City of Fountains" as it possesses
beautiful Spanish architecture and a variety of fountains in its
Country Club Plaza area. It is second only to Rome in the number
of fountains it holds. This booming metroplex with its massive
skyscrapers and nearly 2 million citizens encompassing the Kansas-Missouri
boundary is located in the very heart of the Midwest. A variety
of attractions beckon the new resident. Not far from the Plaza
is Hallmark's Crown Center with its live theatre, shops, restaurants,
along with the cinema. A short distance from the plaza is Westport
distinctive for its unique history, shops, brew pubs, and exciting
nightlife. A must see is the Art Deco region.
A revitalized riverfront welcomes you with shops, restaurants,
and the Steamboat Arabia Museum in the River Market area. The
riverfront is also home to a variety of riverboat casinos if gaming
is your interest.
This five county area boasts over 250 museums, theatres, cultural
centers, and galleries. Home to both Count Basis and Charlie Daniels,
Kansas City jazz is world renowned. You will want to tour the
Jesse James Bank Museum or view one of its film festivals also.
The annual August Ethnic Enrichment Festival features Scottish
Highland Games, a variety of food booths, and a host of entertainment
options. There are over ninety bar-b-que restaurants in the area.
Like sports activities? Kansas City it the home to the National
Football League's Chiefs, baseball's Royals, soccer's Wiz, and
the American Hockey Leagues Blades.
If you are looking for someplace slightly smaller, a popular town
well-kown for its variety of entertainment is Branson. This is
a "must visit" for visitors and residents alike.
There are 211 annual events throughout the state for you to attend.
From the Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremonies to the Old Greenville
Days where you will witness Civil War reenactments and skirmishes
along with bluegrass music, the state is arrayed with activities.
The Lake of the Ozarks region presents its annual bass tournament,
an annual German Oktoberfest, a berry festival, a Houn'Dawg Car
Show, Old Iron Work Days, an annual Heritage Festival, a White
River Arts and Crafts Fair, and an annual Fall Arts Festival/Art
on the Run. At this last event over 40 artists demonstrated their
mediums and the event also features a health and fitness run.
While in the Ozarks enjoy the rivers, streams, hiking trails,
and mountain biking of the Mark Twain National Forest in the very
heart of the Ozarks. The Ozark's Buffalo National River will impress
you with its monumental cliffs and hardwood forests. The Lake
of the Ozarks is 100 miles long and famoous for it's boating and
fishing.
Elsewhere, the Hills Canyon National Recreational Area attracts
hikers, campers, and rafters with its spectacular views.
Missouri is rich in history and culture. Many are drawn to the
vast waterways of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and the
abundant land and wildlife. The thriving city life found in Kansas
City and St. Louis, as well as the small-town charm and quiet
beauty of limestone bluffs and winding rivers make Missouri a
great place to live and explore.
