Queer in Utah
It's the things you don't hear about Salt Lake City that make it a great place for gays and lesbians to come home to. The gay and lesbian presence is a permanent part of Salt Lake's urban make up with at least eight taverns and private clubs, three gay owned coffee shops, two "family specific" book stores, two newspapers, a radio program, and a Pride Day celebration / parade that attracted over 15,000 participants last year.
However, our real pride and joy is the brand new Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Utah with its library, resource center, meeting rooms, and coffee bar (to assist in self sufficiency). Political activity is alive and well with at least five registered political action committees or organizations. We even have an openly lesbian state house member in the downtown district and the state democratic party has sent an openly gay delegate to the last two national conventions.
