First, welcome to Milwaukee---"The Genuine American City."
Summerfest , on the shores of Lake Michigan, is proclaimed
to be the world's largest music festival. Tour the headquarters
of both Harley Davidson and the Miller Brewing Company when
time permits. . Milwaukee is known for the gorgeous Boerner
Botanical Gardens, its Art Museum on Lake Michigan 's lake
shore which also has an IMAX theatre, the Mitchell Park Horticultural
Conservatory Domes, the Pabst Mansion, one of the best air
museums, as well as the Kilbournton House. A variety of fests
abound in Milwaukee-the Arabian, Asian Moon, Mexican, Irish,
Polish, and many more will delight you in the summertime.
Madison is not only home to one of the best universities in
our country, the University of Wisconsin, but the colorful
Olbrich Botanical Gardens, the Wisconsin Capitol Building
with its shell of ornamental stones from all over the globe,
the famed Henry Vilas Zoo, as well as the delicious Celebrate
Madison Festival, and the Madison Chamber Orchestra. Take
a leisurely evening walk along the Memorial Union or sit in
their famous lakeside chairs. Madison's October Ghostpalooza
hosts those who are ghost investigators and writers of this
genre. Other venues offer novel opportunities.
New Glarus, known as Little Switzerland in Wisconsin, brimming
full with fine Swiss foods and gifts is a special treat. Janesville's
Rotary Gardens consists of over15 acres of landscaping representing
French, :Italian and American perennial, Japanese rock as
well as English cottage.
If music is your passion then attend Fish Creek's American
Foklore Theatre, Wasburn's Big Top Chautauqaua known as the
Carnegies Hall of Tent Shows on the shores of Lake Superior,
Egg Harbor's Birch Creek Music Performance Center, or Ephraim's
Peninsula Music Festival. Theater is robust too: Fort Atkinson
offers the Fireside Dinner Theatre and Fish Creek presents
the American Folklore Theater.
The natural beauty of Wisconsin is breathtaking. Door County
is described by all as picturesque and the Wisconsin Dells
offer unique formations found no where else in the country.
Relax on Door's Washington Island after riding the ferry across
to it. Be sure to explore the Cave Point Park. Kettle Moraine
in southeast Wisconsin was formed during the glacial age and
must be seen. Mount Horeb Mustard Museum is just a little
store front, but it displays thousands of mustards from throughout
the world. Taste flavors you never knew existed. "Up North"
in Wisconsin visit Hayward where the annual World Lumberjack
Championship's are held. Lake Superior's Apostle Island Park
consists of 21 islands along with 12 miles of shoreline. Explore
natural wonders in Bayfield while enjoying this scenic treasure
on Lake Superior's shores.
Need outdoor adventure? There are over 15,000 lakes in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin River runs from the top of the state along the
western side. Opportunities for fishing will amaze you-there
are over 2,500 great trout streams in Wisconsin. Golf on one
of the over 500 golf courses located throughout Wisconsin.
Bike trails wind everywhere The Sugar River State Trail and
the Elroy-Sparta are among the best in the country. Hiking
in Devil's Lake State Park provides miles of spectacular scenic
hiking trails and mountain bike trails while you bask in the
scenic beauty of the countryside. You may want to do this
when the famous Morel Mushrooms are in season. The Ice Age
Trail is one of only eight National Scenic Trails throughout
our country. This glacial remnant is over 600 miles long and
will inspire you.
For history buffs opportunities will amaze you. The National
Railroad Museum in Green Bay is fascinating. Old World Wisconsin
depicts how Wisconsin Citizens lived in the 19th and early
20th centuries. Aztalan State Park shows you a Native American
village built a millennium ago. The Mid Continent Railway
Museum recreates the life of rural Wisconsin where you can
ride a steam train and enjoy the exhibits.
